Has anyone seen this show that supposedly includes polygraph? (See the latest tirade on the anti site).

I'm OCONUS and haven't seen it, but I have read that this show is based on the movie Meet the Parents. I thought Robert DeNiro was great in that, and that while polygraph was used for humorous effect, it was done in a way that did not detract from the profession or in any way make a mockery it.

But from what I've gleaned from press accounts, this TV show is using polygraph as some kind of circus side show with little resemblance to true polygraph. This is the kind of thing that I think all polygraph professionals should avoid.

The examiner on the Meet My Folks show appears to be a member of the APA. Perhaps there should be a new rule against using polygraph for "entertainment" purposes?

It's a thankless job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Yes this is a joke! The examiner sits behind the examinee while the "parents" ask the questions. The examiner should be thrown out of any professional association he belongs to.

When the movie "Meet The Parents" came out, I turned down a fair sum of money to go on the air and polygraph two Fox studio news broadcasters live as a promotional stunt. I said no. This is the difference between professionals and "the other guys".

During the APA conference in New Mexico it was brought up about the "Meet the Folks" polygraph examiners ethical inconsiderations. If I recall correctly, it was stated that they were looking into confronting the examiner since he is/was a member...I haven't heard anything else. Maybe someone should drop a note to the APA as to what their stand is on the matter....
